The Digital Defense for Families event, hosted by the Martin County School District, is an important community gathering designed to equip parents and students with vital knowledge about online safety, digital awareness, and the growing risks in today’s technology-driven world. Scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 6–7:30 pm at Hidden Oaks Middle School in Palm City, Florida, this session aims to bring families together to learn how to recognize and respond to digital dangers that can affect children and teens every day.

The featured presentation, titled “Behind the Screen… What Every Family Must Know!”, dives deep into the hidden threats lurking online particularly those posed by predators, traffickers, and malicious users exploiting digital platforms. Attendees will learn how to identify secret chat rooms, hidden vault apps, and deceptive digital tools that predators often use to reach young people. The presentation will also uncover new information about artificial intelligence (AI) and how it can both protect and endanger users, depending on how it is applied. Families will even receive guidance on how to decrypt suspicious texts and messages, giving parents a clearer window into the online activities that may impact their children’s safety.

The event promises to be powerful, informative, and interactive, with resources, prizes, and practical tools available to help attendees apply what they learn. The keynote speaker, Lynne Barletta, an award-winning advocate and founder of U-ACT (United Against Child Trafficking), brings years of experience in protecting youth and educating communities about online exploitation and trafficking prevention. Her presentation empowers families to create a strong digital defense fostering awareness, discernment, and action.

This event is open to both parents and students, offering an invaluable opportunity for families to learn together, strengthen their defenses, and become part of a united movement to protect children in the digital age.
